Why Earn Your Mathematics Master’s Degree at UAF?

The M.S. in mathematics at UAF is a rigorous program that offers exciting opportunities for research and applied learning. You can take courses with either a pure or an applied mathematical emphasis. You’ll also complete a project or thesis developed in consultation with your graduate advisor. Classes are small, and faculty are actively engaged in research and teaching.

  • Projects and theses have been done in the areas of graph theory, algebra, biomathematics, partial differential equations, numerical analysis, dynamical systems, and Lie groups, among other topics. Many projects and theses have led to publications in pure and applied mathematics journals. You’ll also have opportunities to work with faculty on math and statistics research that’s directly connected to real-world issues, including projects specific to the Arctic. Resources available include our world-renowned Geophysical Institute and the CNSM Division of Research.

What Can You Do With a Mathematics Master’s Degree?
