The 2002 UAF Purchasing Customer Survey, the fourth in a series, included feedback from faculty and staff at the Fairbanks campus, the rural campuses and statewide. Good news, as well as some challenges, surfaced from the survey. Eighty-nine percent rated the department's customer service attitude satisfactory or above. Eighty-five percent gave the same rating for overall performance. The highest satisfaction score is for the ProCard process at 92 percent; followed by Blanket Purchase Orders with 91 percent; Small Dollar Orders process and Requests for Quotation, both with 82 percent; Processing Bids/Proposals with 79 percent; Rush Orders with 75 percent; and Single Source contracts with 74 percent. The biggest challenge is in timeliness of processing. Only 73 percent gave a satisfactory or better rating in this category. Written comments provided helpful insight. Comments on timeliness were negative (113 of 125). They specifically suggested a lack of staff as an issue. Comments on ProCard asked for expanded features (48 of 61). Features requested include travel and lodging, more user friendly data access and routine services. Comments on customer service attitude gave staff favorable marks (44 of 59). Comments on processes asked for more flexibility (32 of 36). Most comments asked for more decentralization of authority. Other comments wanted more information on order status (30) or more training (27). From your comments come results. Travel and lodging with ProCard is coming later this year. An upgrade to ProCard will help with data searches. Work is continuing on a better way to purchase routine services with regard to IRS rules. Finally, another buyer will be added to the department to process small orders and speed routine processing. For additional information about the survey or procurement services, contact Mike Grahek, assistant director, Procurement & Contract Services, at 6089 or fnmeg1@uaf.edu. |
