Startup Week

Nov. 8 – 12 was Techstars Startup Week Alaska. This year’s theme was “North to the Future: Start Up, Pivot, Thrive.” Over 50 events were held across Alaska, with 12 hosted or co-hosted by UAF’s Center for Innovation, Commercialization, and Entrepreneurship (Center ICE). The Center ICE team of Peter Webley and Alaska Fellow Kevin Huo were supported by Fairbanks Economic Development Corporation to develop the events for Fairbanks and the Alaskan Interior region.

Events included learning from Alaskan businesses on their recent customer discovery process as part of the NSF I-Corps site at UAF and the benefits that the programming provided to them as they move forward with their businesses. Other presentations focused on past winners of the Arctic Innovation Competition as they pursue their startup journey, as well as plans for AIC in 2022. Center ICE also provided several startups connected to UAF with an opportunity to highlight their recent growth and new funding that is supporting their developments. Attendees of Startup Week also had the opportunity to learn more from the Innovation Cells at Iceman Spark (Eielson AFB) and Arctic Spark (JBER).

If you are interested to see more of the events held during Techstars Startup Week Alaska you can find recordings of virtual events at the Center ICE YouTube channel under the Alaska Startup Week 2021 Playlist. Keep your eyes on this playlist as more events from across Alaska will be added to the list soon.
