                                                                                            Daylight: 14:44:30

Greetings!

The final THREE weeks of the term are before us. You have got this! Stick to your plan. Put in the time (there are no shortcuts!). Very soon, you’ll be sitting atop another completed semester - another completed year!

Are you a student employee? If you are - thank you! It is national student employee appreciation week and I recognize and appreciate your tremendous contributions to our collective success here at UAF. Thank you!

In fact, student employees and their supervisors are invited to swing by the Wood Center from noon-2 p.m. this Thursday for a free ice cream social. Springtime is ice cream time!

If you are not already one of the 899 student employees (!) at UAF, please consider joining the team! There are at least 67 student-employee positions open at UAF right now, and many positions have full-time opportunities over the summer. Working for UAF over the summer can be a wonderful experience. You can explore Alaska, knock out a few classes, and build your resume simultaneously.

For example, Nanook Recreation is busy all summer with programs and currently hiring! Outdoor Adventures has many summer opportunities for student employees. They need help running the gear rental program; the climbing wall needs help with summer camps and belay classes; the SRC is looking for excellent Membership Services help; the ice rink and pool also need a few student employees. Whether you want to work 40 hours or just 10, Nanook Rec can help. Most jobs are ready and willing to train you, and any can work with your personal and class schedule throughout the summer. Pay rates vary, but some areas are offering summer incentives. You'll have the opportunity to work with great professional staff excited to foster your career growth and help you reach any wellness/adventure goals you might have too!

All UAF Student Jobs can be found online. If you have questions about working for Nanook Recreation, email uaf-recreation@alaska.edu to learn more!

Things to know and do:

Graduating:
Are you planning on graduating this spring? If you are plan on attending our commencement ceremonies, April 15th is the deadline to RSVP. Your graduation application is not an RSVP.

Register for summer and fall classes!
A summer class or two can greatly impact your degree plan. Financial aid may be available as well. Check-in with a financial aid advisor to find out more. Also, the UAF Summer Scholarship application is available now. Make sure to apply before the April 14 deadline.

If you register on or before May 5, 2023 (for 9+ credits for undergrad students and 6+ credits for graduate students), you'll be entered in the Registration Week Parking Pass Giveaway, where you can win a Fall 2023 parking pass, t-shirts, and more!

Take care of yourself:
You are entering the final miles of our long race. Take a moment to check in with yourself. How are you doing? Get rest where you can. Schedule a nap. Go to bed early. Resting your brain can mean moving your body. Get outside. How about your friends and fellow scholars? If your pace is strong, take a moment to look after those around you. We are nearly there. You are doing amazing!

As always, if there is something we can do better, email me at obguthrie@alaska.edu.
