Minimum Requirements for Certificate: 30 credits; for Degree: 60 credits

The Yup'ik language proficiency program is designed to provide students with the opportunity to pursue structured study of Yup'ik in order to develop intermediate-level speaking and listening skills, as well as basic reading and writing abilities in the language. The certificate may serve as a step on the way to a two-year or four-year degree.

Certificate Program

  1. Complete the general university requirements.
  2. Complete the certificate requirements. (As part of the certificate requirements, the communication, computation and human relations content is embedded in some of the major required courses for this program.)
  3. Complete the following:
    1. ESK F208--Yup'ik Composition--3 credits
      ESK F130--Beginning Yup'ik Grammar--3 credits
      ESK F240--Introduction to Reading Yup'ik--3 credits
    2. Complete one of the following sequences:
      ESK F121--Elementary Central Yup'ik Apprenticeship I--4 credits
      ESK F122--Elementary Central Yup'ik Apprenticeship II--4 credits
      ESK F123--Elementary Central Yup'ik Apprenticeship III--4 credits
      or
      ESK F103--Conversational Central Yup'ik--3 credits
      ESK F104--Conversational Central Yup'ik--3 credits
      ESK F203--Intermediate Central Yup'ik--3 credits
      ESK F204--Intermediate Central Yup'ik--3 credits
    3. Complete one of the following sequences:
      ESK F221--Intermediate Central Yup'ik Apprenticeship I--3 credits
      ESK F222--Intermediate Central Yup'ik Apprenticeship II--3 credits
      ESK F223--Intermediate Central Yup'ik Apprenticeship III--3 credits
      or
      ESK F205--Regaining Fluency in Yup'ik--3 credits
      ESK F206--Regaining Fluency in Yup'ik--3 credits
      ESK F223--Intermediate Central Yup'ik Apprenticeship III--3 credits
  4. Minimum credits required--30 credits

Major -- A.A.S. Degree

  1. Complete the general university requirements.
