Music

The UAF Department of Music sponsors more than 60 concerts annually by faculty, students and guest performers in solo recitals, chamber music and large ensembles. The larger ensembles include the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra, the Arctic Chamber Orchestra, Choir of the North, the UAF Jazz Band and the Wind Symphony. Smaller ensembles include the Opera Workshop, University Chorus, Jazz Combo, Alaska Camerata and Alaska Chamber Chorale. Music students perform weekly recitals in a series called Music at One, and the department hosts other concerts, lectures, demonstrations and master classes.

Auditions for ensembles are held at the beginning of each semester and are open to all students and community members. Music department events are held in the Charles W. Davis Concert Hall or in the McGown Room. Many performances are free of charge, and UAF students may purchase discounted tickets for others. The Department of Music office is in the Fine Arts Complex, Music Wing room 201.
