High school students

High school (and secondary school) students can take classes at UAF. There are a few options for attending:

The Alaska Higher Education Admission Decision program allows qualified high school students to be formally admitted to UAF as general studies students. AHEAD students are assigned an academic advisor and follow the registration timeline for degree-seeking students.

To qualify, students must have completed three-fourths of their high school core curriculum and have a cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher. (To qualify for federal financial aid, you must have either a high school diploma or a GED.)

To apply to the AHEAD program:

Complete the AHEAD application (PDF) and submit it along the UAF application for admission (including the $50 application fee), high school transcripts and test scores to:

Office of Admissions
P.O. Box 757480
Fairbanks, AK 99775-7480

The AHEAD program application requires your signature as well as signatures of your parent/guardian, and high school principal or counselor.

Go to high school and college!

Enroll in the North Star College at UAF to earn credits that count toward your high school graduation and get you started on a college degree. You’ll take classes taught by UAF faculty on the Fairbanks campus. UAF credits transfer to most universities in the U.S.

Many high school students take online courses through UAF eCampus to get a jump start on their college career and meet their high school requirements. The new eCampus Advantage program offers dual enrollment options at the best prices in the state. Additionally, UAF eCampus offers general education courses that not only apply toward core requirements at UAF, but are accepted nationally at other institutions of higher education.

The Tech Prep program allows high school students to receive college credit at UAF by successfully completing specific, pre-approved courses at their school. The program is a partnership between the UAF Community and Technical College and the Fairbanks North Star Borough School District.
