Mission Statement
It is the mission of UAF Outdoor Adventures to promote and enable UAF students and affiliates to safely explore, discover, and understand the timeless beauty of wild Alaska .
Alaska is an adventurer's paradise with boundless wilderness, spectacular natural beauty, and plentiful wildlife. The Wood Center Outdoor Adventures Program has been offering recreational outdoor trips to UAF students and affiliates for more than twenty years. We rent high quality outdoor equipment, provide an increasing number of instructional trips and classes, as well as show a variety of slide shows and movies to inspire people to get out and explore!

Outdoor Adventures rents some of the best equipment available, our courses are taught by qualified instructors and our student trip leaders are the best UAF has to offer. Outdoor Adventures Trips
Experienced university staff and student leaders lead trips throughout Alaska year round. Become immersed in the many different ways to recreate in the immense Alaskan backcountry. Our trips vary in length from short half-day trips to seven days. Summer trips include extended wilderness backpacks, day hikes, canoeing, sea kayaking, rock climbing, and white water rafting! In the winter we offer the best snowshoeing, cross country skiing, dog mushing, ice climbing, winter camping and cabin trips! We also offer a Wilderness Welcome Trip at the begining of the fall semester for incoming freshmen. Click here for upcoming trips and events.
Equipment Rental
Alaska ’s challenging weather and environmental conditions require an extensive supply of expensive high quality outdoor gear. Outdoor adventures is proud to offer a variety of high quality outdoor rental gear at inexpensive rates. Click here to view equipment and rates. We enable students to explore the immense Alaska Wilderness without spending thousands of dollars on Alaska worthy outdoor equipment.
Campus Activities And Events
Outdoor Adventures offers an increasing number of outdoor-related activities and events. We help sponsor events such as the Banff Mountain Film Festival, the Warren Miller Ski Movie, Teton Gravity Research Ski Movie and the Annual Winter Gear Swap! Academic Classes
Outdoor Adventures also offers a growing number of classes! We offer a variety of classes ranging from sea kayaking, to rock climbing; from wilderness first aid to advanced wilderness leadership. We also coordinate courses with other academic departments to ensure a good time and the safety of students in the wilderness, for classes such as Glaciology Field Methods or introduction to Outdoor Photography. We are always working to grow our course offerings and are open to suggestions.
Safety
The Outdoor Adventures program is committed to practicing and promoting outdoor safety. We have an excellent safety record. Our trips allow UAF students and affiliates to safely explore Alaska in a "reduced risk" environment while learning or practicing outdoor skills and being safe in the backcountry.
