Briefly describe your graduate project: I'm studying the chemistry, functions, and production of aldehyde odorants in Aethia auklets. Use of Aethia auklets for monitoring change in marine food webs.

Why did you choose UAF? Proximity to research sites, expertise in biology and marine science, and the flexibility of SFOS program. Availability of academic support.

Favorite pastimes and hobbies: Media production (film, photography, radio, print journalism), outdoor recreation (skiing, cycling, hiking), music (violin, guitar), and travel.

Most interesting educational experience so far: Discovery of new avian chemical defenses and pheromones in Aethia auklets.

Future plans: Research career in marine science and ecology. Freelance journalism and media production.
