January 26, 2021

University Relations

Alaska NSF EPSCoR and the UAF Faculty Accelerator will hold a workshop Feb. 9 and 10 on "Maximizing Salary and Working Conditions." The event will take place via Zoom from 4-5:30 p.m. on Feb. 9 and again on Feb. 10, with the same content both days.

Register online by 3 p.m. the day of the workshop you plan to attend.

The starting salary in your first academic position can affect your lifetime earning potential, yet many people do not negotiate the terms of their job offer. The workshop will present concrete strategies regarding how, and when, it is appropriate to negotiate. It will also address strategies to discuss balancing your workload. Participants will hear about patterns of initial salary negotiations among different groups; engage in a mock salary negotiation; and interact with a panel of UAF administrators and faculty.

Presenters will be Amanda White, program director of applied management at the UAF School of Management and member of the Provost’s Faculty Development Team, and Abel Bult-Ito, professor of neurobiology and neuropsychology at the UAF Department of Biology and Wildlife, and president of United Academics.
