Sociologist and author Michael Kimmel will give a free public lecture, "Women and Men in a New Millennium," Tuesday, June 24 at 7 p.m. at the Charles W. Davis Concert Hall on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus.
Kimmel is internationally known for his research on men and masculinity. He is a professor of sociology at State University of New York Stony Brook, where he teaches a course that examines the lives of men from a pro-feminist perspective.
Kimmel is in the process of publishing a new book, "Guyland: The Inner Lives of Young Men, 18-26" which is being published by HarperCollins. He is also the co-editor of a college textbook, "Men’s Lives."
He has been published in the Wall Street Journal, the Boston Globe, Newsweek and People and has appeared on numerous television shows and networks, including "The Today Show," CNN, "Smithsonian World" and "Crossfire." Kimmel is also the spokesperson for the National Organization for Men Against Sexism and has lectured at more than 200 colleges and universities. The presentation is sponsored by UAF Summer Sessions.
