Dr. Todd O'Hara, DVM, Ph.D, A.B.V.T.

Professor of Veterinary Toxicology & Pharmacology, and Coordinator of Pre-Vet/Veterinary Student Services 2004-2020

Research and Education Mission (I):
Currently I oversee a teaching and research laboratory in a University setting that maintains senior personnel (e.g., Research Professional, Maggie Castellini) in close association with other professional colleagues to advance “One Health” research with a focus on ocean and human health that integrates undergraduate, graduate and professional students in this mission. We include colleagues from other countries across the Arctic and all of North America and research in Asia on non-human primates. Our research emphasizes work in toxicants (especially mercury) but incorporates the study of nutrients and infectious agents since we are holistic in our multidisciplinary approaches (One Health). Our research is evolving to better determine the use of marine vertebrates as sentinels for ecosystem health and links with human health via studies that include human subjects and the resources they depend on. This includes efforts to develop a Department of Veterinary Medicine with close ties to a well established biomedical sciences institution, the College of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences at Colorado State University.»
