National Standardized Tests
UAF Testing Services houses a computer-based testing center at 211 Gruening Building and offers many of the exams listed below on a daily basis. You can register for the tests marked with an (*) through UAF Testing Services; however all other tests are scheduled directly with the test sponsor. Please review the information listed below for specific test and registration details.
When registering for an exam with UAF, you can register over the phone and submit payment online with a credit card or in person with a credit card or personal check. Click here to see the test schedule.

ACT - American College Test:
The American College Test (ACT®) offers several computer-based exams through it's center located within UAF Testing Services. For a complete list of the exams offered click here. To register for one of ACT's Computer-based tests visit ACT's website at www.act.org.
ACCUPLACER - English Placement Exam:
ACCUPLACER is one of the mandatory placement exams used by UAF for any English course requiring a prerequisite and/or placement test and for students applying to a certificate and/or associates degree program. ACCUPLACER exams are offered for English (Reading and Sentence Skills), and can be taken together or individually, at UAF Testing Services, UAF Community and Technical College, UAF E-Learning and Distance Education, Rural Student Services, Disability Services and at UAF rural campuses and remote locations.
Accuplacer exams are free if taken by students entering UAF, $20 if taken by students entering UAA or UAS and $30 for all other institutions. Additional copies of ACCUPLACER exam results taken at UAF and forwarded to institutions outside of Alaska are subject to a $30 fee per copy.

ALEKS - Math Placement Exam
Starting on March 1, 2014, all new students will need to take the ALEKS math placement test. Don't worry! You take it on your own computer and take as much time as you need. After you take the placement test, you will see what course is recommended for you. The great thing about the ALEKS placement test is that you can improve your score and place into a higher class! After you take the placement test, go into the optional learning mode of ALEKS. The program will give you help on problems and concepts that you need to work on. After three hours in the learning mode you can choose to take the placement test again. You will have up to five attempts. CPA-Certified Public Accountant:
The CPA exam is offered as part of contracted testing between UAF Testing Services and Prometric Testing. To find out more information about this exam and register for the Certified Public Accountant (CPA®) exam, please view the National Association of State Boards of Accountancy website.
CLEP - College Level Examination Program:
UAF offers College Level Examination Program Tests (CLEP®), which is a national program that awards college credit for some introductory tests.
The CLEP fee is $127, which includes a $40 administrative fee. To register for an exam, you must first visit CLEP's website at www.collegeboard.org/clep to register for an exam and pay an $87 fee. Upon registering on CLEP's website, you will print out a registration ticket which will include a Voucher #. Next, you will schedule a testing appointment with UAF Testing Services at 474-5277, where you will be required to present your registration ticket with Voucher # and pay an additional $40 administrative fee (check, money order or credit/debit card).
Please note: active duty military members are not subject to the $85 CLEP fee (unless this is a retake) and will not be required to pay the $40 administrative fee ONLY if a CLEP exam is taken at a CLEP center on base, otherwise there is an administrative fee of $40; call Testing Services at 474-5277 for details.
DSST-DANTES Subject Standardized Tests
UAF offers DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST), which include over 38 different subjects tests allowing you to receive college credits for learning acquired outside the traditional classroom perhaps from reading, on-the-job training, or independent study.
The DSST fee is $125, which includes a $40 administrative fee. To register for an exam, return the completed DSST registration form to Testing Services with your $40 administrative fee (check or credit/debit card). The $85 DSST test fee can be in the form of credit card payment only (as required by the test sponsor), and will be collected at your scheduled test date.
Please note: active duty military members are not subject to the $85 DSST fee (unless this is a retake) and will not be required to pay the $40 administrative fee if a DSST exam is taken at a DSST center on base; call Testing Services at 474-5277 for details.
GRE - Graduate Record Examinations:
UAF requires the results of the Graduate Record Exam (GRE®) General test for most graduate programs; however a GRE General test score is required from all students whose undergraduate GPA is below a B (3.0) average regardless of the departmental requirement. The fee for the GRE General Test is $205, and you can register on GRE's website at www.ets.org/gre.
Some programs also require GRE Subject exams. Refer to the admission requirements of your prospective degree program to determine if a GRE General or Subject exam is required. GRE Subject exams are offered in paper/pencil format only, 3 times per year. The cost for a GRE Subject Exam is $150 and you can register online at www.ets.org/gre.
GMAT - Graduate Management Admission Test:
The Graduate Management Admission Test (GMAT®) is required for students applying for an MBA program at UAF. Currently students interested in the MBA program at UAF can submit scores from either the GRE or the GMAT.
The GMAT is offered as part of contracted testing between UAF Testing Services and Pearson VUE. The cost of the GMAT is $250. For more information about this test or to schedule an appointment, visit MBA.com or follow the link as noted above.
HOBET - Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (TEAS V):
The Health Occupations Basic Entrance Test (HOBET®) is required for students enrolling in the Dental Hygiene program at UAF. To register for an exam, call UAF Testing Services at 907-474-5277, and visit the UStore on this website to pay the $50 exam fee.
MAT Testing - Miller Analogies Test:
The Miller Analogies Test (MAT®) is a high level mental ability test which requires the solution of problems stated as analogies. UAF Testing Services offers the MAT for $100.00.

NBDHE-National Board Dental Hygiene Examination:
The National Board Dental Hygiene Examination (NBDHE®) assists state boards in evaluating qualifications of dental hygienists for licensure. NBDHE certification is accepted in all states as fulfilling all or part of the written examination requirements for licensure. The NBDHE assesses the ability to understand important information from basic biomedical and dental hygiene sciences and also the ability to apply such information in a problem-solving context.

NICET-National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies:
The National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies (NICET®) provides an independent evaluation of technical knowledge and experience, through certification, among those working in the fields of engineering technology; define and support career paths for engineering technologists and related disciplines; and ensure recognition and continued professional development of certified individuals.

PRAXIS I/II - The PRAXIS Series Testing:
The PRAXIS I and II exams are required for certain programs at the University of Alaska Fairbanks and the State of Alaska Department of Education for teacher licensure. PRAXIS I computer-based exams and a low number of PRAXIS II exams are offered through Testing Services at the University of Alaska Fairbanks Monday - Friday on a space available basis.
TEAS-Test of Essential Academic Skills:
The Test of Essential Academic Skills (TEAS®) is a multiple-choice assessment of basic academic knowledge in reading, mathematics, science and English and language usage. The objectives assessed on the TEAS exam are those which nurse educators deemed most appropriate and relevant to measure entry level skills and abilities of nursing program applicants.
TEAS candidates will register and pay for the TEAS via credit card at https://www.atitesting.com/home.aspx. Please follow the instructions for Register for TEAS with PSI.
TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language:
The Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL®) exam is a pre-admission exam required for most students applying to UAF whose primary language is not English. The cost of the TOEFL varies and registration is available at the TOEFL website only.
