Masking in Classrooms and Labs

3-18-22

Dear faculty and staff,

As you know, earlier this week the Chancellor sent out a message regarding changing mask requirements in our classrooms and labs.

We are happy to see that the Troth Yeddha’ Campus and other Fairbanks locations are currently in a green status on the UAF COVID-19 Dashboard. Fortunately, we have not seen an uptick of COVID cases even as people returned from Spring Break, so we are moving forward with following the CDC guidelines for our classrooms and labs. Below is a summary of status color code and the associated masking requirements going forward. This guidance is also valid for all classrooms and labs.

  • Green (low): Masks optional.
  • Yellow (medium): Masks required in health care settings. Masks optional elsewhere.
  • Orange (high): Masks required indoors.

Please continue to check the UAF COVID-19 Dashboard for current COVID-19 reported numbers, the status on all our UAF campuses, masking requirements, and associated guidance.

For faculty who have specific concerns about their class setup, please reach out to your dean or director so that we can work together to address any individual concerns. I will also be working closely with deans and directors to help address concerns. As always, you can also reach out to me directly at aprakash@alaska.edu. If your students voice concerns and you are unsure of how to address those, please refer them to the Center of Students Rights and Responsibilities. CSRR is a resource for both students and faculty.

Thank you so much for your help in providing academic continuity while adapting to the changing COVID landscape.

Sincerely,

Anupma Prakash, provost and executive vice chancellor
