Emergency preparedness for students

Preparedness Checklist

Program UAF police's direct number into your cell phone: 907-474-7721 for non-emergencies or visit the UAF Police Department website. For emergencies call 911.
Be familiar with the Emergency Response Guide for initial actions.
Make or purchase an Emergency Supply Kit.
Make an Emergency Plan with your family and/or friends in case you need to leave campus.
Make sure that you know what to do if there is an active shooter (PDF) on campus or a bomb threat (PDF).
Know the procedure to take if you think an explosion is imminent. (Drop to the floor and lie flat, covering your head with your hands. Afterwards, leave the area as quickly as possible, but only after debris is no longer flying.)
Know how to shelter-in-place and lockdown.
Learn relevant building evacuation routes, fire alarm pull-station locations, fire extinguisher locations and assembly areas.
Be aware that any on-campus demonstration that is not registered, blocks access to UAF facilities or interferes with campus operations poses a threat to the safety and security of the campus and is in violation of University policy.
If working with biological, chemical or radiological agents, make sure that you have received the proper safety training regarding personal protective equipment and other safety procedures, including those for storage, use and disposal of these materials. These procedures can be found in UAF's Laboratory Safety Training.
Update your contact information on a regular basis with UAF on Alert to receive emergency notices and updates.
