The University of Alaska Fairbanks offers 17 Ph.D. programs, 49 Master’s degree programs,
several Post Baccalaureate Certificate programs and a cooperative/collaborative Ph.D.
program with the University of Alaska Anchorage. UAF enrolls approximately 1,500 students
in graduate studies from all 50 states and territories, and countries from all over
the world.
The Graduate School works with the Director and the many UAF graduate programs to
provide guidance for your degree completion. We work closely with your department
to follow your progress and are ready to help you with questions and concerns
Accreditation
The University of Alaska Fairbanks was founded in 1917 and has been continuously accredited
by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU - formerly the Commission
on Colleges of the Northwest Association of Schools and Colleges) since 1934. NWCCU
is one of six Regional Accrediting Associations for Institutions of Higher Education
that are recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
We hope you will join us for graduate studies at the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
You’ll find a sense of adventure and exploration here that is hard to match at any
other university in the United States, or even the world. Alaska and UAF are indeed
“naturally inspiring”, whether your interest is art, history, languages, biology,
geology, space, engineering or many other fields.
You might be thinking that Fairbanks is remote, but if you look at an Alaska-centric
projection of Earth you will see what a wonderful location this is. More than that, there is a sense of a shared journey here. That sense of community,
that “we’re all in this together”, is a rare and magical attribute that provides important
support for the graduate studies experience.
What attracts our graduate students, who come from all over the world, is often a
combination of a fascination with Alaska and a desire to work with a particular member
or members of our outstanding faculty.
We at the Graduate School are here to help you in your academic journey. We track
your progress, help you to avoid getting lost, and provide consultation and connection
to resources outside your immediate academic home of department and advisor when needed.
Please feel free to contact us about your questions and concerns - That’s why we’re
here!
