Field Camp

Geology Field Camp is the capstone project of BS Geoscience students in the Geology, Paleontology, and Geospatial Sciences options. Students develop advanced geologic mapping skills in interior Alaska, the Alaska Range, and the Talkeetna Mountains.

The Department hosts different seminar series, including the traditional Friday Seminar, as well as the Chapman Seminar series, held by faculty members holding the Sydney Chapman Endowed Chair in Physical Sciences.

International Volcanology Field School

UAF’s Department of Geology and Geophysics offers a two-week field class in volcanology. The course is offered every summer both in Katmai National Park, Alaska and on one of active volcanoes of Kamchatka.
