Student / Box Holder Information

To receive mail on the Fairbanks campus, students who live on campus must rent a campus mail box, located on the lower level of Constitution Hall. There is no alternative for mail delivery on campus. All mail for students living on campus comes to the Campus Mail Center and is not delivered anywhere else on campus. This includes USPS, FedEx, and UPS mail.

Addressing

To ensure that your mail is placed in your campus mail box as quickly as possible, here is how to have your mail properly addressed:

Please use registered names on all mail items. Neglecting to do so could result in the package/letter being returned to sender. If a box holder’s address is incomplete or missing, delivery will be delayed.

Box Holder’s Name
UAF Box 75xxxx (xxxx is the box holder’s assigned 4-digit mail box number)
Fairbanks, AK 99775-xxxx (xxxx is the box holder’s assigned 4-digit box number)

If a Physical Address is needed for a package to be shipped to you via FedEx or UPS:

Box Holder’s Name
1692 Tok Lane, #107
Box 75xxxx (xxxx is the box holder’s assigned 4-digit mail box number)
Fairbanks, AK 99775-xxxx (xxxx is the box holder’s assigned 4-digit mail box number)

The 99775 ZIP-Code is unique to the University of Alaska Fairbanks and should be used at all times.

Mail Box Assignment

The mailbox rental fee is $75 per semester and is billed automatically to the student's account at the beginning of each semester (fall and spring). Billing will continue until the mailbox account is closed through UAOnline. Students who do not live on campus may also rent mailboxes as long as enough are available. Limited numbers of larger boxes are available for additional cost. There is a $25 charge for lost or unreturned keys.

Spring semester box rental includes mail service through summer.

Students are responsible for renting, updating address information, and closing mailboxes through the Student Services & Account Information area on UAOnline. Students will continue to accrue box rental and any other associated fees every semester until their mailboxes are officially closed.

How We Work

Letter mail and packages:

Letters are placed in the mail boxes and are available for pick up daily. If mail is addressed without your CMC box number on it, it may be delayed. Do not include your UAF residence address, there is no delivery of student mail except to the CMC. Students are expected to check and empty their mailbox on a regular basis.

The CMC receives packages throughout the day by the major carriers. Packages that can fit in the package lockers will be placed as soon as an empty locker is available. When placed in a locker, notification with a locker pickup code will either be sent by text/email or a gold slip will be printed and placed in the mail box. Those packages can be picked up when the building is open.

If there are no lockers available, or for packages that are too large for the lockers, a long yellow package card will be written up. The package will be placed on our storage shelves and the card will be placed in the mail box.

If a package or item needs a signature, a pink slip will be written up and placed in the mail box. Packages that have a yellow card or pink slip can be picked up during open window hours.

Please wait to inquire about your package until you receive a notification from the CMC to pick up your package. Notifications directly from the carriers or companies such as Amazon only indicate that the package has been scanned by the USPS for delivery to the CMC, and does not mean that the package has been received and processed by the CMC. Our staff is working hard to make sure that your package is being processed quickly.

If packages are not picked up with 30 days of arriving at the university, they will be returned to sender unclaimed.

Forwarding (temporary, summer, or permanent):
Do not submit your forward request with the USPS. The USPS does not forward your mail, only the Campus Mail Center does. For questions or assistance on filling out a change of address form, please contact us.
Summer Forward:

This is for those that will not be at UAF for the summer semester (mid-May to mid- August). This is perfect for those students that will be returning in the fall.

Closing your mail box:

When a box holder has ended their time here at UAF, they are responsible for completing a mail box closure form through the Student Services & Account Information area on UAOnline, and returning the key. Returning the key without submitting a closure form will not close the box or stop recurring billings. There is a $25.00 charge for lost or unreturned keys. The step-by-step guide to closing your mail box or submitting a temporary forward is here .

Who do I talk to about payment options?
Please contact the UAF Office of the Bursar, uaf-bursar@alaska.edu or 907-474-7384.

Where is the Campus Mail Center?
The Campus Mail Center is located on the lower level of Constitution Hall.

Do I have a package to pick up?
We have three ways to let you know if you have a package: a text/email or a gold slip for items placed in the package lockers, a long yellow card is for a package that is not in the lockers, or a pink slip or an item that requires your signature. Packages that have a yellow card or pink slip can be picked up during open window hours.

Parents:

Why is my student required to rent a campus mail box?
All mail for students living on campus comes to the Campus Mail Center and is not delivered anywhere else on campus. This includes USPS, FedEx, and UPS mail.

What if I use FedEx or UPS to ship my student a package, but those carriers do not ship to PO Boxes?
You will use this address:

Box Holder’s Name
1692 Tok Lane, #107
Box 75xxxx (xxxx is the box holder’s assigned 4-digit mail box number)
Fairbanks, AK 99775-xxxx (xxxx is the box holder’s assigned 4-digit mail box number)

My student says they have not gotten their item I sent them… why have they not received it?
Generally, when a box holder has not gotten their item, it’s because they have not checked their mail box. The other reason is the item may not have arrived at the CMC yet. If it has a tracking number, please check that to see if it is still in transit. When it comes to a first class letter, it could be still on its way.

Other Important Links

The Campus Mail Center currently cannot offer a way to mail your letters and packages. Until a service alternative is implemented, here are some ways to mail your letters and packages:

• Buy stamps at Wood Center.
• Order stamps and shipping materials from http://www.usps.com
• Purchase and print your own United States Postal Service postage using the Click-N-Ship service at http://www.usps.com. Then, you can bring your package to the mail center window (Monday-Friday, noon-3 p.m.), and we will forward it to USPS with our daily outgoing mail.
The closest USPS facility to campus is at 755 Fairbanks Street (on the corner of Geist and Fairbanks).

If you receive unsolicited catalogs or other unwanted advertising mail, you can have your name removed from mailing lists by visiting the Federal Trade Commission here: https://www.consumer.ftc.gov/articles/0262-stopping-unsolicited-mail-phone-calls-and-email.
