Applying for financial aid

Complete the FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) will determine your eligibility for federal grants and loans, state grants and scholarships and some private scholarships. The FAFSA should be submitted every year and is available October 1 for the following fall. There is not a deadline for the FAFSA, but we recommend completing before February 15 to be considered for all UAF scholarships. The state of Alaska requires the FAFSA by June 30 for state aid, including the Alaska Performance Scholarship.

Submit a scholarship application

UAF offers over 450 scholarships. You can apply for all of these scholarships with our one UAF scholarship application. Each scholarship has different criteria. The deadline to apply for most UAF scholarships is February 15 for the following academic year. Some scholarships may be available after this date.

Your financial aid award will be available after you submit your applications. You will receive an emailed award letter about a week after you submit your FAFSA. If we need any additional information to complete your application, we will email you and post the request to your UAOnline account. Submit all requested paperwork as soon as possible.
