M.F.A. in Creative Writing

The MFA Creative Writing Program at the University of Alaska Fairbanks has a long history of excellence. The program is a rigorous three-year residence combining an intensive focus in fiction, poetry, creative nonfiction and dramatic writing with an in-depth study of literature.

Throughout the three-year period, students in the program work closely with individual faculty mentors as they progress towards completing a thesis with an eye toward eventual publication. A second year comprehensive exam requires students to read widely in their focus area.

The beauty and ruggedness of the Alaska landscape offers space and inspiration for the writer. Students here receive an intellectual and experiential education. The MFA in Creative Writing Program at UAF offers students an opportunity to live and work among a community of like-minded artists.
