UAA hosts Alumni of Distinction Celebration 2026

The three distinguished graduates were honored for their contributions in their fields and to their communities at the Alumni of Distinction Celebration on Thursday, March 26, which saw more than 120 attendees pack the Fine Arts Building Recital Hall on the Anchorage campus to reconnect with their hometown university.

Ned Rozell selected for 2026 Edith R. Bullock Prize for Excellence

UAS, Tlingit & Haida sign memorandum to advance Indigenous educational opportunities

The University of Alaska Southeast and the Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska have entered into a memorandum of understanding, laying the groundwork for long-term partnership and innovation, at the center of which is the co-creation of a vision for a School of Indigenous Studies at UAS.

Juneau’s record winter snowfall won’t influence glacial outburst flood size this summer

Eran Hood, a glacial outburst flood expert at the University of Alaska Southeast, said the snowpack isn’t deeper because there was a long warm-up in the middle of winter when a lot of it melted. 

But more importantly, Hood said snowpack is completely unrelated to the conditions that control the size of glacial outburst floods, unlike spring floods in parts of the western U.S.
