Update on Staff Unionization Efforts

UA is continuing to work with the Alaska Labor Relations Agency (ALRA) regarding ongoing efforts by some staff to form a union. The University is currently determining which employees are eligible to be represented by the union if it is ultimately formed.

Coming October 1: Improved Travel Allowance Experience in Concur

Starting October 1, UA will launch an updated Travel Allowance experience in SAP Concur. Travel Allowance is the feature that determines how per diem is calculated and populated.

The UA Foundation Board of Directors has approved a formal Scholarship Management Policy, in alignment with the UA Board of Regents' Student First Attainment Framework. UA is on schedule for the new scholarship management system, AWARDED, to go live on Oct. 1, 2025.

Did you know T3 Alaska is bringing maritime career pathways to 10 coastal communities this year?

The University of Alaska Fairbanks' T3 Alaska program is launching Maritime STEAMfests. These hands-on events connect high school students to careers at sea and in shipyards. The first events took place in Sitka, Wrangell, Seward, and Valdez this spring, with more scheduled this fall in Ketchikan, Kodiak, Juneau, Hoonah, Kake, and Homer.

UA Board of Regents approves resolution of appreciation for UAF Chancellor Dan White

At the September 5 full board meeting in Juneau, the University of Alaska Board of Regents approved a resolution of appreciation for former UAF Chancellor Dan White. White retired from his role as Chancellor in July.

Kaydee Van Flein to serve as UAF's interim associate vice chancellor for student affairs

The University of Alaska Fairbanks announced on September 11 that Kaydee Van Flein will assume the role of interim associate vice chancellor for student affairs while Ali Knabe serves as interim chief of staff to Interim Chancellor Mike Sfraga.
