Since January 20, 2025, Executive Orders and other guidance issued represent a shift in federal priorities. These changes can potentially impact awarded projects and those awaiting funding from federal agencies or sponsors. UA's Federal Relations Team, General Counsel, and senior system leadership are aware of the disruptions that these changes are causing, and we are monitoring the situation as it evolves.

Legislature Continues Work on Budget while Examining State's Fiscal Picture

The third week of the 2025 legislative session saw continued hearings on the FY26 budget, as well as presentations focused on the challenging fiscal environment the state is facing. Lawmakers, particularly those on each of the finance committees, are grappling with the news that previous budget balancing methods may not be sufficient to cover costs in the upcoming fiscal year.

The 2025 State of the University Address was be held at noon in Juneau on January 30, 2025 during the Alaska Chamber Legislative Fly-in. The full video of the speech was posted online and is available for viewing.

UA Reaches Tentative Agreement on New Agreement with UNAC Bargaining Team

The TA'd agreement includes substantially higher salary minimums for all UNAC members, and across-the-board increases of 2.75%, 3%, and 3.25% for FY26, FY27, and FY28, respectively. It also maintains the status quo employee health benefit cost share of 82% employer, 18% employee.

UPDATE - State of Alaska Cybersecurity Issues Impacting Retirement Contributions

On 2/7/2025, the University of Alaska (UA) was informed that the Division of Retirement and Benefits payroll reporting application is back online. The Division is now implementing a phased approach to bring all Division employers back online and process the backlog of plan contributions (both employee and employer).

She currently serves as President and CEO of ASRC Energy Services (AES), the largest energy solutions company in Alaska and a subsidiary of Arctic Slope Regional Corporation. Her term will run from 2025 to 2033.
