Conference Committee approves critical investments in the FY23 budget

As the Legislature enters its final official day of session, the outlook is positive for the University of Alaska system. The operating and capital budgets moved from conference committee to the House and Senate for approval before midnight.

The University of Alaska Board of Regents will hold public testimony from 4-5 p.m. on Monday, May 23. This one-hour session provides the university community and all Alaskans the opportunity to talk directly with regents.

Update on FY22 External Audits

UA's annual external audits of finances and federal assistance funding, commonly referred to as the Uniform Guidance or Single Audit, are in progress. The external audit team from CliftonLarsonAllen (CLA) will perform the audits.

UAF student receives 2022 Angus Gavin Memorial Migratory Bird Research Grant

Annie Maliguine, a master's student in marine biology at the University of Alaska Fairbanks, is the recipient of the 2022 Angus Gavin Memorial Migratory Bird Research Grant. Her work is focused on understanding how forage habitat conditions for Steller's eiders may have changed in the last two decades at Izembek Lagoon.

Wellness program deadline June 30

The UA Wellness Program ends June 30 of this year. Each participant of the University of Alaska Wellness Program must earn a total of 7 activity points and complete the online health risk assessment and a biometric screening by June 30 to be eligible for the $600 wellness rebate.

New ACEP roles for Holdmann, Kasper

After almost 14 years, the Alaska Center for Energy and Power will undergo a leadership change. Gwen Holdmann, the founding director of ACEP, will step down on May 9. ACEP Deputy Director Jeremy Kasper will serve as interim director.

On the passing of Joe Usibelli

Joe Usibelli's contributions to Alaska and to the university have been transformational. He was not only the force behind Alaska's largest coal operation, but he and his wife Peggy Shumaker shared their success and contributed generously to the University of Alaska Fairbanks.
