I am pleased to share some new developments in Financial and Business Services. Our
teams continue to focus on strengthening support for UAF's teaching, research, and
service missions through improved communication, collaboration, and professional development.

We are pleased to announce that Kaydee Van Flein will assume the role of interim associate
vice chancellor for student affairs while Ali Knabe serves as interim chief of staff
to Interim Chancellor Mike Sfraga. Learn more on what Van Flein brings to her new role.
Thank you to those of you who attended the chancellor’s convocation on Tuesday. For

The UA Foundation Board of Directors has approved a formal Scholarship Management
Policy, in alignment with the UA Board of Regents' Student First Attainment Framework.
In addition, we are on schedule for the new scholarship management system, AWARDED,
to go live on Oct. 1, 2025. The Financial Aid Offices and the UA Foundation are hosting
town halls to introduce staff and faculty to the new platform on Sept. 23, 2025. Read more about the update and Town Hall login info.

Proposals to reduce climate warming in the polar regions through geo-engineering rather
than carbon emission cutbacks would be dangerous and ineffective, according to an
international team of scientists that includes two from UAF. Read more from the paper.
UAF Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning offers a variety of non-credit-bearing classes
accessible to community members without the typical college course requirements. Learn more and register.
Humans vs. Zombies
Center for Student Engagement will be kicking on Humans vs. Zombies on Sunday, Sept.
14, running through Saturday, Sept. 20. The event is a large-scale game of tag using
Nerf blasters along with their orange bandanas to complete missions and battle all
across campus in a zombie apocalypse setting. The is a week-long event and takes place
outside of buildings. For more information, questions, or any other information, please

UAF Summer Sessions and Lifelong Learning is offering a one-night cooking workshop
with local chef Jennifer Jolis on Friday, Oct. 17, from 6-9 p.m. at the Hutchison
