Construction Management
Your education
The Associate of Applied Science (A.A.S.) degree in construction management is a two-year program designed to prepare you for entry-level construction management positions in the construction industry and continuing education for those already working in the industry.
You will develop the knowledge and skills required to plan and manage all aspects of construction projects through coursework that includes: methods of building construction; codes and standards; civil, electrical, mechanical and structural technology; cost estimating and accounting; project planning, scheduling and management; construction safety; and computer aided design.
Your career
Construction managers are involved in the development, design and construction of public and private projects and determining cost-effective plans, means and methods and project schedules. They monitor work progress to ensure compliance with architectural and engineering drawings and specifications, track construction costs and administer contract changes.
Successful graduates will understand the basic principles of construction contracting and be able to work effectively with senior management staff to plan, direct, monitor and control construction project management processes—including documentation and communication of critical issues with representatives of project owners, designers, users, government agencies, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, technicians and other specialists.

Scheduling:
All required courses are available online, providing the flexibility to accommodate students at a distance and those who are currently employed.
When to Start:
Students can start their program in fall, spring or summer semester.
Location:
Program is located in downtown Fairbanks at the UAF Community & Technical College, 604 Barnette Street building. This location contains spacious classrooms, computer labs, tutors and learning center and comprehensive student services and support.
Program highlights
The construction management program was developed with input from Alaskan contractors and professional industry organizations to provide students with a broad knowledge of building systems and construction techniques with special emphasis on Alaskan climate, soils and remote logistics considerations. Local design and construction professionals visit our classes to share information on current construction projects and other topics of their expertise.
Other details
Students entering the program are expected to have basic computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet usage.
