Professor of Petroleum Geology, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Catherine Hanks has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1992 to 2017; and

WHEREAS Dr. Hanks expertly taught sedimentary and structural geology for petroleum engineers, as well as courses in reservoir characterization and petroleum geology, among many others; and mentored sixteen master’s and doctoral degree recipients in geology, petroleum engineering and geophysics; and

WHEREAS Dr. Hanks advised the highly successful University of Alaska Fairbanks Imperial Barrel Award student team, which consistently placed in the Pacific Regional Competition and finished in first place three out of five years; and

WHEREAS Dr. Hanks conducted both basic and applied research on wide-ranging topics, including Alaska structural geology and tectonics, petroleum reservoirs and sequestration of carbon dioxide; and served in prominent professional service roles, including Associate Editor for the American Association of Petroleum Geologists Bulletin;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Catherine Hanks for her extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Hanks and as evidence of the University’s desire that her identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Catherine Hanks as Professor of Petroleum Geology, Emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Catherine Hanks, and conveyed to Dr. Hanks on this 6th day of May, 2017.
