Professor of Arts and Letters, Emeritus

WHEREAS Mr. John Creed has served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching and public service from 1987 to 2017; and

WHEREAS Mr. Creed skillfully taught a wide range of courses in subjects including oral communication, writing, English, journalism and Alaska Native studies; and Mr. Creed, with his colleague, Ms. Susan Andrews, operated the Chukchi News and Information Service, a cultural journalism project based on student publications and that served as an incentive for high achievement, and

WHEREAS Mr. Creed authored more than eighty newspaper, magazine and journal articles, garnering regional and national writing awards, and co-edited two student writing anthologies, which likewise won several national awards; and

WHEREAS Mr. Creed served in prominent professional and public service roles, including membership on the Alaska Press Club Board, including one year as President; membership in the Northwest Arctic Higher Education Consortium; and membership on the Statewide Faculty Alliance Academic Freedom Task Force, among many others;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Mr. John Creed for his extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Mr. Creed and as evidence of the University’s desire that his identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Mr. John Creed as Professor of Arts and Letters, Emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Mr. John Creed, and conveyed to Mr. Creed on this 6th day of May, 2017.
