Professor of Sociology, Emeritus

WHEREAS Dr. Jordan Titus served the University of Alaska Fairbanks with distinction in teaching, research and public service from 1990 to 2015; and

WHEREAS Dr. Titus was a talented instructor whose integration of ethnomethodology and conversation analysis, childhood, and the sociology of law has inspired hundreds of students; led a major revision of the Sociology curriculum, developing a department focus on social inequalities and social justice; and chaired and served on multiple graduate student committees; and

WHEREAS Dr. Titus conducted research specializing in childhood, law and gender, authoring widely cited articles and presenting at regional and national professional conferences; and contributing erudite community perspective articles to the Fairbanks Daily News-Miner; and

WHEREAS Dr. Titus served as Sociology department chair for many years, served on numerous University committees, and benefitted the faculty through her union service in leading roles with United Academics; and

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks expresses its deep appreciation to Dr. Jordan Titus for her extensive contributions to the State of Alaska and to the University;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the University of Alaska Fairbanks, in further recognition of the invaluable services rendered by Dr. Titus and as evidence of the University’s desire that her identification with the University be maintained, hereby salutes the appointment of Dr. Jordan Titus as Professor of Sociology, Emeritus; and

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that this resolution be appropriately engrossed and signed by the Chancellor of the University of Alaska Fairbanks as further evidence of the esteem and respect in which he holds Dr. Jordan Titus, and conveyed to Dr. Titus on this 8th day of May, 2016.
