Current Research Projects
  • The Coastal Fisheries Ecology Lab at the University of Alaska Fairbanks conducts research that contributes fundamental knowledge of coastal ecosystems, of which humans are a part, and addresses information needs for ecosystem-based fishery management and conservation. We draw approaches and perspectives from multiple disciplines, including fisheries science, ecology, and anthropology. We use a combination of field sampling, quantitative methods, and ethnographic approaches in our work. Major research themes include:
  • Trophic interactions and movement ecology of marine and anadromous fishes
  • Ecological responses of marine communities to multi-scale environmental drivers
  • Integrating local and traditional ecological knowledge with fisheries science
  • Fishery resource users’ perceptions of and responses to environmental and regulatory change
  • Stakeholder engagement in recreational fishery management and conservation
