Fees: Extension's DEC-certified kitchen can be rented at the rate of $20.00 per hour.
The test kitchen is located upstairs in the Cooperative Extension Service state office building on UAF campus at 308 Tanana Loop. Please click here for directions
. There is no elevator in the building; clients should be prepared to haul items up one flight of stairs after entering the building from the parking lot. There is no loading zone at the street level entrance, but clients on foot can enter through the street-facing doors instead.
Parking information: There is one visitor spot free of charge located in the Cooperative Extension lot. The rest of the lot is reserved 7 a.m.–5 p.m. for Gold Decal parking only. If the visitor spot is full, visitors should travel to the Taku lot down the hill and purchase a permit from the kiosk next to the shuttle station.
About the Kitchen: The Cooperative Extension Service developed its test kitchen in 2004 with grant funds from the U.S. Department of Agriculture. The Department of Environmental Conservation-permitted facility is located in Extension’s statewide building on the University of Alaska Fairbanks campus.
Our test kitchen is open to the public for use for events, catering or small food production. This allows producers access to a permitted kitchen while they get their businesses off the ground. We recently received a 15-gallon batch pasteurizer that will soon be available for small producers who would like to pasteurize and make their dairy products in our facility.
COMING SOON: In cooperation with the Alaska DEC, we will have a 15 gallon vat-pasteurizer available for use to produce cheeses to be sold in Alaska.
