Sierra Kinworthy, Class of 2019

My internship with the production team for Rugby World Cup Sevens 2018 gave me a unique opportunity to see how media messages are planned for audiences at major sporting events. As a business student, I understand the impact advertising and sponsor funds have on game day production, and I thoroughly enjoyed being a part of media production for this event. This experience gave me the opportunity to grow myself professionally and apply the lessons I learned in my classes to the real world.

By continuing to study marketing and game entertainment at CBSM and through my position as marketing programs coordinator for the UAF Athletics Department, I am increasing my knowledge about sport management and sport business. Combining all of these things is setting me up to be competitive in the workforce.

Mallory Adams, Class of 2019

I am currently the Fitness Facility Manager at Sheridan Fitness Center on Joint Base Lewis-McChord in Tacoma, Washington. I enjoy working in sports and recreation because I love the field and know the benefits associated with it. Helping others is very rewarding to me and the fact that I am able to work with our military makes my contribution that much more fulfilling. My CBSM degree will help my career because through my time with Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation (Family and MWR), I have picked up necessary skills including employee relations and physical fitness; however, I am lacking the business education side. My degree will give me what I need in order to advance further in my career.

Tommy Nelson, Class of 2021

BSRB is the only major in Alaska that focuses on what I want to do in the sports industry when I’m done with college. My long-term goal is to become a general manager of a professional sports organization. This degree will help me understand all sides of the industry, allowing me to start on the operations side and work my way up the executive ladder. I love Alaska and the Fairbanks area. The UAF BSRB offers me a jump start toward my career and the best value for my education.
