The Spring Career Fair is the perfect opportunity to explore a variety of industries and career pathways, network with employers, and secure a job or internship. Employers from a variety of industries are waiting to meet you! 

Not looking for a job or internship right now? Now is the time to make connections and build professional relationships in your industry. As many as 80% of jobs are filled through networking. Make connections now, and set yourself up for a successful job search in the future. 

This event will be an interactive tabling experience where students and alumni will move between tables to connect with Employers. This event is open to all UAF students and alumni.

Student Registration opens on February 1, 2022 

  • Login to Handshake with your UA username and password! If you haven’t activated your account yet you will need to answer a few questions to get started. 
  • Select [events] -> [career fair] -> [UAF Spring 2022 Career Fair]. 

Select ‘register’. Once you have registered you will be able to go into the fair and check out what Employers are attending! Employers are still registering, so make sure you check back periodically! 

On the day of the fair, make sure to check-in at the Welcome Table to be entered into a drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card!

It is not required that you register ahead of time for this fair, however it is encouraged that you register for this event ahead of time so employers have the opportunity to connect with you prior to the Career Fair, giving you an advantage over students/alumni that do not register in advance. Registering on Handshake also allows you to see what Employers will be attending.

WHAT IS HANDSHAKE?

Handshake is the University of Alaska's career management website. It's easy to navigate, works on your phone, and allows you to find jobs and connect with local and national Employers. Handshake is where you will find information about the Employers attending the Spring Career Fair and even see some of the jobs and internships they have posted.

Prepare:

  • Research the companies attending the Fair, and refer back to the Handshake Fair page often to see who is attending
  • Have an idea of what companies you would like to speak with on the day of the fair 
  • Prepare a list of questions to learn more about the employer. company, or industry.
  • Practice your 30 second 'about you' in order to confidently introduce yourself to employers 
  • Download the Handshake App
  • Update your Handshake profile
  • Apply for jobs/internships ahead of time through Handshake
  • Consider scheduling an appointment with UAF Career Services to help prepare for the Spring Career Fair 
  • Follow us on Facebook and Instagram for more weekly Career Fair tips
  • Come dressed to impress. Formal business attire is not required, but we recommend ditching the sweats and selecting a neat, clean button down, sweater, shirt, or graphic free t-shirt.
  • Follow up with employers that you connected with 

UAF Career Services Resources: 

Attendees are not required to bring a resume to the event. However, if you are actively seeking a position it is recommended that you bring a updated resume in order to remain competitive in the job search! Don't forget you can get your resume and cover letter reviewed by making an appointment with Career Services.

Covid-19 Protocols:

Please be mindful of UAF policies and safety measures in regards to COVID. Face masks are encourgaged for all attendees. Do not attend if you are experiencing any symptoms of COVID.

Location: 

The Career Fair will be held in the Wood Center in both the Ballroom and downstairs in the Mall Area. Be sure to check out both locations so you do not miss any booths you may be interested in! A booth map with the location of the employers will be uploaded here as well as on Handshake a few days prior to the event! Be sure to check it out!

Time: 

The Career Fair will be held from 11 am - 3 pm. You can stop by anytime and stay as long as you are able! 

 Helpful Tip: 

Take note of who you meet during the event by collecting business cards, or making a note on your phone, tablet, or on a piece of paper. You will want to follow up with these connections later.

Make sure the connection lasts by following up with employers, applying to positions, and continuing the conversation. 

Before following up with an employer, be sure to update your Handshake profile. This will help you make a positive impression and stay competitive amongst other applicants they are looking at. 

Send a follow-up message to employers through Handshake or direct email. 


Employers are encouraged to post jobs before and after the career fair. After you meet an employer at the fair, find their company on Handshake or search all jobs.

How do I register for the fair? 

  • Login to Handshake with your UA username and password! If you haven’t activated your account yet you will need to answer a few questions to get started.

  • Select ‘register’ and return to the main event page. 

Do I have to register in advance for the fair? 

It is not required that you register ahead of time for this fair, however it is encouraged. This allows employers the opportunity to connect with you prior to the Career Fair, giving you an advantage over students/alumni that do not register in advance. Registering on Handshake also allows you to see what employers will be attending. If you register ahead of time, Career Services will send you helpful tips the week of the fair!

Do I need to check in on the day of the fair? 

Yes! Please find out welcome table on the day of the event in the Wood Center Ballroom to check in. Regardless if you registered ahead of time or not, we ask that you check in at our welcome table on the day of the event. By checking in on the day of the fair you will be entered into a drawing for a $100 Amazon gift card (sposnored by Career Services) or a $50 Amazon gift card (sponsored by the Alumni Association)!

What should I wear? 

Formal business attire is not required, but we recommend ditching the sweats and choosing a neat (clean and wrinkle free) sweater, blouse, button down, or t-shirt free of graphics and logos. You are more than welcome to wear business attire if you wish and are able!

Do I need to bring my resume with me to the fair? 

Attendees are not required to bring a resume to the event. However, if you are actively seeking a position it is recommended that you bring a updated resume in order to remain competitive in the job search. You can also upload your resume to your Handshake profile

What if I am unable to attend the Spring Career Fair? 

We understand that some of you may not be in Fairbanks, or your schedule may not allow you to attend the in-person fair. We are encouraging employers to post their open positions to Handshake by March 15th. Even if you cannot attend the fair, you can still apply for any positions posted on Handshake! You can also make an appointment with Career Services to help you with this process or to review your application materials (appointments available in person and virtually).
