The workshop is organized by the University of Bergen, Norway; Oregon State University; and the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Graduate and advanced undergraduate students are invited to apply to participate before February 28, 2018.

The program will feature guest lecturers from a wide variety of disciplines discussing natural resources and their management in an Arctic environment. Students will also visit Chena Hot Springs and Resort for a guided tour on geothermal energy. Funding permitting, they will also visit Denali National Park and Preserve for an educational tour of Alaskan wildlife and their management in Alaska. This program aims to provide qualified students with an academic curriculum that will supplement their current degree programs; however, no credit will be offered for participation.

Students must plan to arrive in Fairbanks, Alaska on Sunday, August 5 and depart on Monday, August 13. Reasonable airfare costs to/from Fairbanks, on-campus dorm accommodations (double occupancy), and allowances for most meals will be covered. Students may need to pay for their meals upfront and receive reimbursement after the program. We encourage students from any university to apply; however, only twenty students will be selected for this competitive program.

This program is focused on the internationalization of education and is made possible by a grant from the High North Programme at the Norwegian Centre for International Cooperation in Education (
