About the Indicators

Faculty, staff, students, and administrators contributed to the development of our  indicators over the course of a year or more.  The source and collection methods for each indicator are detailed below. 

Upper and lower performance thresholds for evaluation of each indicator are outlined below.  Benchmarks for the expected performance were developed based on expertise area input, historical performance data, peer institutional data, or some combination of those influences. 

What we measure: How many first-time full-time students seeking baccalaureate degrees enrolled in one fall semester returned to enroll at UAF the following fall semester. Disaggregated by race, ethnicity, age, gender, socioeconomic status, and first-generation college student status. Collected and reported annually.

What we measure: How many students enrolled in one academic year who did not graduate in the academic year returned to enroll at UAF the following academic year. What we measure: Graduation rate of enrolled students by academic year cohort. 3 years for associate, 6 years for bachelors, 7 years for masters, and 10 years for PhD level as the completion rate timeframe. Disaggregated by race, ethnicity, age, gender, socioeconomic status, and first-generation college student status. Collected and reported annually.

What we measure: A representative selection of 10 general education or common prerequisite courses with typically high enrollment numbers and pass rates below 70% are tracked, and the weighted average rate at which students pass these courses with grades of A, B, C or Pass is used for the metric. The courses are: PSY 101X, BA 151X, CHEM 105X, MATH 105, MATH 113X, MATH 151X, WRTG 213X, BIOL F115X, MSL 111X, and COJO 121X. Collected and reported annually.

What we measure: A ratio which is the total amount of research expenditures for the year, divided by the full-time equivalent number of faculty who have research expectations in their workloads. Collected and reported annually.

What we measure: A ratio which is the total faculty publications for the year, divided by the full-time equivalent number of faculty who have research expectations in their workloads. Collected and reported annually.

What we measure: The number and percentage of academic degree programs that require students to complete an undergraduate research and/or scholarly activity project that leads to the formation or creation of new information and/or a product. Collected from each academic program every two years on the academic program review cycle.

What we measure: Number of graduates in programs designated as high-demand job area degrees, as defined by UA in collaboration with Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development. Areas include: teacher education, oil and gas, natural resource development, mining, information technology, hospitality and tourism, health, fisheries and marine science, construction, transportation and aviation, and administration and finance. Collected and reported annually.
