Pre-Vet Advising

Ms. Jacy Pietsch is the Program Coordinator for the UAF Department of Veterinary Medicine. Ms Maggie Castellini is a Research Professional in the Department of Veterinary Medicine and works closely with undergraduate and veterinary medicine students seeking biomedical research experience. Ms. Pietsch and Ms. Castellini will advise undergraduates (and high school students) who wish to become veterinarians.

Ms. Pietsch and Ms. Castellini work closely with CSU-CVMBS to provide pre-vet advising.

CSU has a list of prerequisite courses and credits available (Preparatory coursework guide (PDF)) and UAF has the necessary courses to meet this prerequisite requirement. Alaska has several pathways for Pre-Vet students.

Students are encouraged to take the upper level biomedical science courses such as microbiology, cell biology, anatomy, physiology, histology, nutrition and other advanced biomedical sciences to improve their applications for the veterinary program. If you wish to set up an appointment or would like more information please do not hesitate to contact Ms. Castellini at the Department of Veterinary Medicine (UAF-Vet-Med@alaska.edu).
