I began my career at UAF in the Office of the Registrar as a records clerk in fall 2011 and continued working on campus as a student employee throughout my undergraduate degree in history. I joined the TRIO Student Support Services team in 2012, and I thoroughly enjoy helping first-generation and limited-income students and students who experience disabilities work toward their educational goals. As a first-generation/limited-income student, I came to Alaska from Washington as part of the Upward Bound math/science program, participating in a total of three federally funded TRIO programs. My master's degree in Arctic and Northern studies will be completed this summer, with a focus on cultural history and higher education in the Pacific Northwest.

I started my academic career here at UAF as a first-generation college student in fall 2012. My best experiences at the university happened to be while being a member of the university’s honors program and while participating in the Office of Undergraduate Research and Scholarly Activity’s program. In 2017, I earned my B.S. in biological sciences with a concentration in cell and molecular biology and a minor in anthropology. For a time, I lived in London, where I graduated at the top of my class with an M.Sc. in cancer biology from Kingston University. It was here that I was able to indulge my love to travel and experience other cultures before coming home to Alaska. Now I hope to put my academic and research experiences to good use for Student Support Services as an advisor to first-generation and limited-income students and students experiencing disabilities who are pursuing a degree in a STEM field.
Megan is super excited to be joining the Student Support Services team here at UAF as a Comprehensive Advisor. She moved to Fairbanks Alaska 4 years ago to pursue a job as an educator. She graduated with a Bachelors of Music Education in 2018 from Eastern Michigan University and until recently has been the music teacher at Tanana Middle School. During her time at Tanana one of her many strengths as an educator was creating a safe and supportive environment for her students which she is excited to carry over with her here at UAF. Her passion for education and supporting students has led Megan to this position with the SSS team. She looks forward to meeting and supporting the students in this program!
SSS Mental Health Counselor
Nikki joined Student Health and Counseling in 2022 and is the designated mental health counselor for Student Support Services. Nikki earned her master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling from UAF. She is currently working toward LPC licensure under the supervision of Dr. Valerie Gifford.
Nikki utilizes psychodynamic psychotherapy to assist individuals in understanding their internal psychic structure and the way in which experiences from childhood and adolescence may be carried into adulthood. Through a mutually-trusting, collaborative relationship, Nikki works with individuals to uncover the unconscious drivers of their thoughts, behaviors, and emotions, and builds on the inherent resilience of the human spirit, while aiming to reconnect with inner wisdom. She is particularly passionate about helping clients regain a sense of safety in their physical and emotional experiences, while internalizing a belief in their ability to achieve the meaningful life of their choosing.
I am excited to join Student Support Services as an Academic Advisor. I am passionate about supporting others and look forward to helping you and others balance life and academia. As a first-generation/low-income student, I empathize with the complexities of pursuing higher education. I came to Fairbanks in 2022 from Colorado to enjoy all the adventures the north offers. I graduated from Fort Lewis College with a B.A. in Psychology. I am also working on an M.A. in Clinical Mental Health Counseling online through Adams State University. Outside of my professional life, I enjoy having coffee dates with friends, reading, cooking, running, weightlifting, and traveling.
I look forward to supporting you on your journey!

I am so thrilled to get to work with you at Student Support Services! I have been in the Disabilities Office, Residence Life Housing Office, and worked as a Resident Assistant as a student employee. I have been part of UAF since 2019, studying for my Bachelors of Social Work Degree and Minor in Criminal Justice. I have lived in Nome, Alaska for most of my life and I spent a few years in Oklahoma. I have been living in Fairbanks since 2015 and have been loving it here ever since. In the summer I spend my time kayaking, blueberry picking, camping, and fishing. During the winter, I enjoy skiing, crocheting, painting, and going to coffee shops! Whatever I am doing I love to be around other people and I love learning new things. I am very excited and looking forward to being part of your journey while you are here at UAF!
I am extremely excited to be a part of Student Support Services (SSS) as the Program Specialist. I moved to Fairbanks in 2012 from Texas and my time here has been amazing. My first experience with TRIO as a first-generation college student was participating in their Fall 2019 Emerging Scholars Academy (ESA) which helps students prepare for college and allows great opportunities to meet new people and explore Alaska. After ESA, I began working student jobs on campus. I became a Spanish tutor for the UAF Foreign Language Department while also being a student tutor for SSS and helped students with writing and/or foreign language classes. I am majoring in Linguistics and am currently working in the Accelerated BA/MA program for Applied Linguistics. Outside of my professional life, I enjoy learning languages and more about graphic design, watching international TV shows/movies, listening to music, and making stickers for fun. I can’t wait to meet you and help you on your journey throughout UAF and beyond!
I graduated from UAF with a BSc. In Biological Sciences as a first generation, low-income student. The support I received from the SSS program during my time as a student was a foundational element of my success in my program. Since graduating I have worked a variety of wildlife, botanical and fisheries related jobs in Alaska; from collecting biological data on small boats on the Bering Sea to identifying the plants and trees of the Interior. I believe all people have the ability to develop skills and unearth interests that can lead into meaningful and fulfilling work and I look forward to supporting students in navigating the academic portion of that pathway.
