‘Alaska Weather’ television program to end

The television program “Alaska Weather” on KUAC’s UATV channel 9.4 will end July 1, 2023, after 45 years of continuous broadcast.

Alaska Public Media and the National Weather Service produce the program in Anchorage. Alaska Public Media was unable to secure funding to support production, and the National Weather Service has not found partners to continue the program in its current format.

Alaska Public Media assembles and distributes “Alaska Weather” to stations throughout Alaska, including KUAC TV, a service of the University of Alaska Fairbanks.

NWS will continue to produce graphics and record a modified web-based version of the program, which will be posted on the NWS Alaska YouTube channel. A web-based forecast included in the TV broadcast will continue to be available via multiple sources listed on the NWS website.

For those without high-speed internet access, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s weather radio service will remain available. Statewide public and marine forecasts are available over the phone through the Alaska Weather Information Line website and at 1-855-937-4977.
