UAF faculty and staff,

Each month I send an update to the UAF community regarding COVID-19 and any changes in process or policy. Not much has changed since my message last month. At UAF, we continue to update the homepage each Friday regarding masking expectations and events guidance, based on the CDC’s COVID-19 community status. At this time, Fairbanks and the Interior Alaska campus are in green status, all other locations are in yellow status

As we move into summer, there are no vaccination requirements for courses, apart from those that have already been approved for summer-only courses. At this time, there is also not a COVID-19 vaccine requirement planned for students living in residence halls starting fall 2022. Faculty who would like to request a vaccination requirement for a fall 2022 class, may make this request through their dean or director. These requests will be reviewed by me in mid-July and then forwarded to President Pitney for her review and decision. Please note that vaccine requirements for courses in spring 2022 were limited to those offerings and do not continue into next fall.

Faculty or staff who are immunocompromised and wish to request a medical accommodation due to COVID-19 should follow our standard process for ADA accommodations. UA Human Resources reviews and approves requests for medical accommodations.

Let’s work together to ensure we can provide a vibrant, in-person experience for our students this coming academic year. It is our hope and expectation that all traditionally in-person classes will be in person next fall. Many UAF students desire the in-person experience and many of our international students, in particular, require in-person classes just to be able to attend UAF. Thank you for your efforts throughout the pandemic.

Thanks for choosing UAF.

Dan White, chancellor
