Dear UAF staff and faculty,

With the return from holiday, the semester starting, and COVID-19 still in our communities and across the nation, it is important that prior to returning on-site to any UAF campus, you follow the campus entry restrictions guidance. At this time, the State of Alaska Health Order No. 6 requires anyone traveling outside of the state do one of the following:
  1. Take a COVID-19 test within 72 hours prior to arrival in Alaska, and practice strict social distancing for five (5) days after arrival with a negative test result, or;
  2. If a state resident, quarantine for 14 days prior to returning to work on-site — no test is required, or;
  3. If travel outside of the state is less than three (3) days, no test is required.
Prior to the holiday break, we announced that UAF would be adopting the 10-day “close contact” quarantine option that the CDC has provided as an alternative to a 14-day quarantine.

The “close contact” option we have adopted is as follows: Quarantine for 10 days, release on day 11 if you have no COVID-19 symptoms. The 10-day guidance is for anyone who is considered a “close contact” with a COVID-19-positive individual.
The CDC has also developed guidelines for a seven-day quarantine. This potential alternative is available at UAF only to a relatively small number of groups, such as our emergency services providers, and only with approval from the Operations Support Team.

If you are exhibiting any COVID-19 symptoms, please stay home until you are well or receive a negative COVID-19 test result. Often we brush off minor symptoms such as the sniffles, a cough or body aches. However, please pay attention to how you are feeling during this time to keep yourself and our communities healthy.

UAF has done a great job at keeping our COVID-19 cases low with the safety measures we have in place and that our faculty, staff and students continue to exercise. As we enter the new semester, please be thinking about new ways to engage, communicate and promote wellness. All the while, thank you for keeping our university safe.

Thank you for choosing UAF.
