RE:                  Delegation of Authority as UAF Radiation Safety Officer

Effective immediately, I appoint you as the University of Alaska Fairbanks (UAF) Radiation Safety Officer.  As such, you are responsible for ensuring the safe use of byproduct material at UAF.

The Radiation Safety Officer has the authority to immediately stop any operations involving the use of byproduct material in which health and safety may be compromised or may result in non-compliance with NRC requirements.  The Radiation Safety Officer is responsible for managing the radiation safety program; identifying radiation safety problems; initiating, recommending, or providing corrective actions; verifying implementation of corrective actions; and ensuring compliance with regulations for the use of byproduct material.

I hereby delegate to you, as the UAF Radiation Safety Officer, the authority necessary to meet these responsibilities.  This authority cannot be re-delegated by you to another.

By copy to the Vice Chancellor for Administrative Services Julie Queen, I am requesting that her office ensure that this memorandum is distributed to all UAF authorized users of radioactive materials.
