Mark Oldmixon - Coordinator

Mark became the Coordinator for Outdoor Adventures in April 2007 after a year and half as the graduate assistant to Outdoor Adventures. He completed his Master's in Education at UAF in April 2007 as well. He hopes to grow the program to include more technical skills training and certification courses. He has also developed a wilderness leadership curriculum which he is offering through the Natural Resource Management School.

Credentials: American Mountain Guide Top-Rope Site Manager, PCIA Instructor Educator Candidate,  ACA Canoe/ Kayak Instructor, BCU 3-star paddler, Level 2 Coach Trainee, Wilderness First Responder.

Trainings: Level 1 Avalanche; Whitewater Rescue Technician; Advanced Mountaineering with Alaska Mountaineering School.

Laura Beebe - Graduate Assistant

Laura is a recent arrival to the Fairbanks area but has spent the past several years in and out of the arctic working for the National Park Service, guiding women's mountain expeditions and studying natural history. She brings with her an undergraduate degree in both Adventure Education with a focus in Women's Studies and Environmental Studies. Coupled with her education, Laura has spent several years working as an wilderness instructor at  number of organizations and as a natural history teacher for elementry to college aged students. She is excited to intergrate her passions, previous work experiences and graduate work in Northern Studies with her energies at Outdoor Adventures. 

Credentials: Wilderness First Responder, Wilderness Water Safety, ACA Coastal Sea Kayaking Instructor

Trainings: Alumni of the National Outdoor Leadership School, Exum Mountain Guides and  Rainier Mountaineering Inc. 

Nenana River

Bryson DeRonde - Student Assitant

Bryson comes to UAF from Virginia and Texas. After recognizing the amount of fun that can be had during an Alaskan winter, he decided to stick around for the summer knowing it would be three times as fun.

Credentials: Wilderness First Responder, PCIA Instructor Candidate, ACA Moving Water Canoe Level 3, Swiftwater Rescue Technician Unit 1

Max Bartlett - Student Assistant

Max arrived in Fairbanks from Maine in the late summer of 2007.  Two winters later he is still just as enamored with Alaska.  He has been a student leader for Outdoor Adventures since May of 2008, and is looking forward to break-up, so he can get on the water again.

Credentials: Wilderness First Responder, PCIA Bottom Belayed Site Manager, ACA Moving Water Canoe Level 3, Completed Introduction and Advanced Wilderness Leadership.

Hope, Alaska

Lily Grbavach - Student Assistant

A wildlife biology student from California, Lily was recruited out of our Wilderness Welcome program to take our Wilderness Leadership courses. After a summer job at the Alaska Wildlife Conservation Center, Lily was employed in Fall 2009 as a trip leader. Lily is often seen behind the lens of a camera or laughing her way down the trail. She brings a great energy to our office.

Credentials: Wilderness First Responder.
