What music are you currently grooving to?  Passion Pit, Black Keys, Sleigh Bells, Mumford & Sons

What, if push comes to shove, is your all-time favorite album?   Neon Bible by Arcade Fire...hands down!

What was the first album you ever bought? And where did you buy it? My first CDs I bought were Sound Garden’s Superunknown & Nirvana’s Nevermind. I got them when I was in the 6th grade, while I was in Missoula, MT at the best record store ever, Rockin’ Rudy’s.

What does your Saturday night mixed tape look like? Probably a little bit of hip-hop, some Modest Mouse, Cold War Kids and  Arcade Fire.

And your Sunday morning mixed tape? If it is a lazy Sunday morning, my play list might have some reggae, a little bit of Death Cab for Cutie, and I might throw in some Johnny Cash. But if it’s a house cleaning kind of Sunday morning then something a little more upbeat like White Stripes, Interpol, or Modest Mouse.

What’s your all time favorite movie? Oh man, I have so many…but if I had to pick one, it would be one of John Cusack's first films: Better off Dead. It’s a cheesy ‘80’s movie!

Dani Atkins

Student Assistant & Nanook Traditions Chair

What is your Favorite Tradition?

SpringFest is my favorite because I love the atmosphere, watching the dance off and getting down and dirty with mud volleyball
Favorite Movie Genre?
Scary/Thriller because they get your heart pumping
Favorite place on campus?
Turtle sex park when it's nice and sunny out.
Little Known fact:
I am an adrenaline junkie. I've been white water rafting, cliff jumping and so much more. I'll try anything once.
Favorite Current Song:
Problem by Natalia Kills or anything by Ellie Goulding
What did you want to be when you were younger?
I wanted to be a lawyer because I love to talk and I'm good at arguing.

Haley Hanson

Student Assistant

What does your Saturday night mixed tape look like?

It’s definitely going to have some Dropkick Murphys, The Clash, Bouncing Souls, and Street Dogs.

What is your favorite Nanook Tradition?

I would have to say Springfest, because a lot of the events are located outside, and it’s fun to wander around in the sun.

Top 5 favorite albums?

For various reasons and not necessarily in order:

1.      Harvest by Neil Young

2.      The Year of Hibernation by Youth Lagoon

3.      Ceremonials by Florence & The Machine

4.      Third Eye Blind by Third Eye Blind
5.      Cease to Begin by Band of Horses

Where’s your favorite place to be on campus?

Besides SAO, I would have to say The Pub, because a lot of my friends work there.

What is your favorite thing to do outside of work/school?

When I’m in Bethel, it would definitely have to be fishing, and hanging out with my parents. In Fairbanks, I would say watching live music, driving in the hills, and hanging with friends.

Karissa Amador

Concert Board Queen

I am Karissa Amador, from  Los Angeles, California. I  moved to Fairbanks when I was 18 to start school here at UAF. I’m majoring in wildlife biology. My focus  will be on polar bears and snow leopards. My hobbies include reading, playing video games, watching a  lot of Netflix, and sleeping. I’m currently UAF’s Concert Board Chair, which is an incredibly fun job. I love  listening to all kinds of music and, even though I can’t sing, I do it often. I also really love to eat.

Erik Rickards

Student Assistant and Pretty Cool Guy

What song always makes you happy when you hear it?  A lot of G-Eazy's music does it, but "Must Be Nice" definitely takes it.

What is your favorite genre of movies? Action is the only genre of movies for me.

Where is your favorite hang out spot on campus? Wood Center, for sure. I don't live in the dorms, so it's the only place on campus that me and my friends can all meet up.

What is your favorite Nanook Tradition?  SpringFest! It's great for getting out, enjoying the warm weather, and meeting people once the snow has melted.

If given the chance to skip work or school for the day how would you spend your day? I'd just go out and see what's happening with my friends. If I've got free time, I can always find someone to go spend it with.

When you were little what did you want to become? A person who gets paid to play games and be cool. Failing that, an architect.

Would you rather watch a movie or go outside and do something? I'm not too big into movies, honestly. I'd probably rather be out and about with my friends.

Chelsea Roehl

Arctic Java Coordinator & Graphic Master

Ever since I was young I've had an insatiable desire to create and learn. I am an avid gamer, artist, runner, hunter, reader, and learner. I'm currently pursuing a Bachelor's of Fine Art concentrated in digital art and graphic design, with a minor in advertisement and marketing. I wanted to work at SAO because I saw it as a perfect opportunity to learn new skills applicable for my career field and to connect with the UAF community more. I love interacting with people and making them happy, and I feel this job would give me the opportunity to do that while attaining valuable job experience.
