Current Projects
Reindeer Antler Project at LARS
This project examining whether female reindeer antlers are symmetric is in the
write-up phase. Numerous students have assisted with antler measurements
and data
analysis, and now students are encouraged to assist with the final written portion.
Caribou/Musk Ox Pedigree Project at LARS
In order to maintain genetic diversity of the existing herds, the Large
Animal Research Station (LARS) seeks to establish pedigrees for caribou and
muskoxen at the research station. This will allow researches to determine if inbreeding
is occuring and take steps to maintain genetic diversity within both herds.
Forage Clipping at Creamer's Field
Description coming soon!
Alaska Bird Observatory
To assist the Alaska Bird Observatory's annual efforts, students from UAF are
involved with data entry and analyzing spatial data with GIS. |

President: Micah Miller
E-mail: fsmwm4@uaf.edu
Bio: I am originally from Maine, but I have been up here long enough to consider myself a local. I am particularly interested in birds, though I am happy doing almost anything. I should be graduating in 2009, and from there, who knows? I spend a lot of time climbing, hiking, canoeing, hunting, fishing, and winter camping, so if you don't find me hunkered over a boring textbook sometime, I might be off somewhere exploring!

Bio: I'm from Wyoming originally, but have been in Fairbanks now for about 3 years. I'm ok with calling Alaska my home! I'm currently working on two degrees: Wildlife Biology and Geography. I'm planning on adding a third one next fall! [Addicted to School] The third will be a degree in GIS with emphasis in Mapping and Landscapes. So excited! By the time I'm finished, I hope to be a mapping biologist that can hopefully work anywhere! I've been active with the Wildlife Society Student Chapter and the State Chapter since I started school in Fairbanks in 2005. I've really enjoyed this program, the opportunities that arise, and the people that are associated with it! I love kayaking, hunting, hiking, camping, art (sometimes crafts), music, and watching movies and much, much more!

Bio: I was born in Scotland, raised in South Carolina, and am currently a resident of Alaska. I love field work, particularly avian studies, but I also am interested in climate change studies, geospatial analyses, and remote sensing. I hope to eventually combine my love of traditional field techniques with cutting-edge technology into a career in ecology and conservation. In addition to wildlife biology, I also enjoy studying ancient history and am an avid fan of the performing arts.

Executive Officer: Jeff Wells
E-mail: fsjjw15@uaf.edu
Bio: I am from the great state of Minnesota (ya, sure you betcha), and moved to Alaska 5 years ago to run sleddogs. After spending a year running dogs, I realized this is a pretty cool state and decided to stay and go to school here at UAF. I am largely a bird guy, although I enjoy all wildlife. You will find me dreaming about the Iditarod most of my days, but I also enjoy bird watching, hunting, fishing, soccer, and guitar playing.
