Bio: I was raised in Ohio, but have moved around quite a bit. I'm crazy about bats and hope to figure out what they spend their time doing in this area. I'm often out and about banjo pickin', backpacking, geocaching, snowshoeing, canoeing, birdwatching, taking in live music, and of course looking for bats.

Bio: I'm from Michigan, and I'm going into my third year of living in Alaska.
It is definitely a perfect place for me! I'm working on a Wildlife Biology major along Natural Resources Management and German minors. As of right now, I think my focus will be mammals (particularly large). Polar bears are definitely a primary interest and favorite animal of mine. Dogs are another passion, and hopefully I'll have chances to try out mushing more this year. I also enjoy running, backpacking, hiking, kayaking, skiing, road biking, and reading. |

Reindeer Antler Project at LARS
This project examining whether female reindeer antlers are symmetric is in the
write-up phase. Many students have assisted with antler measurements
and data
analysis, and now students are encouraged to assist with the final written portion.
Caribou/Musk Ox Pedigree Project at LARS
In order to maintain genetic diversity of the existing herds, the Large
Animal Research Station (LARS) seeks to establish pedigrees for caribou and
muskoxen at the station. This will allow researches to determine if inbreeding
is occuring and take steps to maintain genetic diversity within both herds.
Alaska Bird Observatory
To assist the Alaska Bird Observatory's annual efforts, students from UAF are
involved with data entry and analyzing spatial data with GIS.
Moose Browse Study with AK Dept. Fish and Game
In an effort to monitor winter moose, the ADF&G has teamed with UAF undergraduates to conduct numerous moose browse surveys over the coming months. This project provides a range of experience including winter willow identification, measurement of vegetation, and working in a team setting.
