Water and Environmental Research Center
Prospective Students
The Water and Environmental Research Center could not function without the efforts of a talented and energetic contingent of student researchers. As a student's ultimate goal is to graduate and move on, however, we constantly seek new students to fill our ranks. You may be just such a student.
This note is designed to provide you with information you need to better examine all that we have to offer. Following are a few important points to consider:
-
If you are interested in becoming at WERC student researcher, then we are interested in hearing

(907) 474-7789 - The WERC provides faculty mentors and facilities for graduate students from a variety of disciplines to perform the research necessary to obtain their science or engineering degrees.
- The WERC is a research center, not an academic unit. Although many of the WERC faculty members are also members of academic units (e.g., Civil and Environmental Engineering), the WERC itself does not offer classes or grant degrees. In order to perform research at the WERC, a student must be accepted into a graduate program provided by an academic unit.
- Most students conducting research at the WERC have traditionally pursued graduate degrees through the Civil and Environmental Engineering department or the Interdisciplinary Studies program offered by the Graduate School. Nonetheless, there are numerous graduate programs providing instruction in science and engineering topics relevant to the WERC's research mission. Accordingly, we currently support and will continue to seek students from a variety of academic units.
