USAGE STATISTICS DEFINITIONS
Definitions
User
For purposes of this analysis, a "user" is equated with a unique domain name. Some domains are shared by two or more people. Some people have two or more domains.
Page
A single file requested from the webserver. The file may be text, images, or data. Sometimes called a "hit." A request to execute a script also counts as a page.
Non-image page.
Any page except an image (.gif, .xbn, or .jpeg).
Visit
Any number of requests from a single user, each of which follows the previous one by no more than 30 minutes
"First contact" Page
The first text page accessed in a visit.
Click
A request for any text page. Usually requires a "click" of the user's mouse.
Referer
URL from which the user requested the first content page of a visit.
Agent
Software (browser) used for the first content page of a visit.
Government Domain
Includes users in "gov", "us", or "mil" domains.
Commercial Domain
Includes users in the "com", "org", or "net" domains, but not major networks.
Major Network Domain
Includes users in the "aol.com", "prodigy.com", or "compuserve.com" domains.
