February 8: Doug Kane, "Contrasting Extreme Run-off Events in Areas of Continuous Permafrost, Arctic Alaska." Dr. Kane, Director of the Water & Environmental Research Center, has been performing field research in Alaska for over 35 years. 3:30 pm, Duckering 531. February 15: Bill Lee, "Assessment of Evapotranspiration Landfill Caps: Preliminary Results from a Continuing Comparative Trail of an Evapotranspiration Cap vs. a Compacted Clay Cap", graduate student studying with Drs. February 29: Anna Liljedahl, "The Role of Meteorological Variables on Arctic Wetland Evapotranspiration in Different Time Scales". Liljedahl is working on an Interdisciplinary PhD (hydrology) with Larry Hinzman, IARC. Learn more about Liljedahl's work here.   Seminar will be held at 3:30pm, Duckering 531.

March 7: Thomas Larsen, "Amino Acid Fingerprinting: A New Method to Link Organisms in the Food Chain". Larsen is a postdoctoral fellow with Diane O'Brien, IAB, assistant professor of biology & wildlife, and Matthew Wooller, Associate Professor Alaska Stable Isotope Facility. Larsen received an M.S. in Biology from University of Aarhus, Denmark and a Ph.D. from University of Copenhagen, Denmark. Seminar will be held at 3:30pm, Duckering 531. March 21: Rena Bryan,"Surface Water Storage Change as Influenced by Permafrost Degradation and the Vertical Flux of Water." March 28: Emily Youcha, "Hydrogeology and Groundwater Quality of the Sand Lake Area (South Anchorage, AK)". Youcha is research staff in WERC. April 18: Laura Brosius, "Determining organic matter sources for methane production and bubbling from alaskan lakes using stable isotopes and radiocarbon ages." Brosius is is a Masters-level student working with Katey Walter and investigating how differing physical and biological characteristics of lakes influence methane bubbling. Visit her web page. May 2: Will Rhodes , "Triclopyr Attenuation in Cold Soils." Rhodes is a Master’s candidate in Environmental Engineering, working with David L. Barnes, professor of Civil & Environmental Engineering.
