OUTREACH
The PI of this project has been invited in March 2003 to attend a NOAA workshop on "Ensuring Quality Long-Term Monitoring with the Geonor Precipitation Gauges". He gave a review talk on challenges in precipitation observations in cold regions/seasons, that included a summary of this project.
Public in Alaska understands the importance of accurate snow data and information. The National Weather Service (NWS) and Department of Transportation (DOT) are planning to update a precipitation frequency map for Alaska. We have been invited in May 2003 to attend one of their conference calls to plan and coordinate the activities. We described the goals and approaches of our project and they showed interesting in our work. We will work with them on Alaska local projects.
In August 2004, the PI was invited to co-host a snow session at the 8th International Conference of Precipitation in UBC of Canada. Yang also had a poster for this project to present the results. International colleagues are very interested in our research at the pan arctic scale.
