Biography:
Dr. Berezovskaya is a Research Assistant Professor in the Water and Environmental Research Center at the Institute of Northern Engineering. She joined the WERC permafrost hydrology group as a Post Doctoral Fellow in 2003. Berezovskaya earned a M.S. (1999) and Ph.D.(2003) in Land Hydrology and Water Resources from the Russian State Hydrometeorological University, St.Petersburg, Russia. During her Ph.D. work, Berezovskaya was awarded a Presidential Fellowship to conduct research within Russian-German project, "The Laptev Sea System", hosted by the Research Center for Marine Geosciences, University of Kiel, Germany, 2000-2001.
Research Interests:
Berezovskaya's research focuses on the role of snow in cold regions hydrology. She is an investigator on projects that examine snowmelt runoff formation and winter precipitation assessment in remote arctic areas. Her research approach is to understand the physical process through extensive field observations with following implementation or improvement of analytical formulations. Her expertise is in the observation, description and modeling of snow water equivalent and hydrologic responses during snowpack ablation. Berezovskaya conducts collaborative research in the US on the Alaska's North Slope and in the Russian Arctic, Western and Eastern Siberia.
