Vision Task Force
UAF Vision 2017:
Shaping the Future of UAF
In March 2007 55 leaders from Alaska, the Lower 48 and the university convened on the UAF campus as the Vision Task Force 2017. Chancellor Steve Jones asked the group, led by co-chairs Jo Heckman, president and CEO of Denali State Bank; and Kevin Hostler, president and CEO of Alyeska Pipeline Service Co., to present recommendations on how UAF could position itself to be one of the world's premier arctic research and teaching universities by 2017, when UAF celebrates its 100th anniversary.
The task force was broken out into six working groups, each focusing on a pathway from UAF's 2010 strategic plan, including student success; enrollment and retention; research; outreach and community engagement; staff and faculty development; and philanthropic efforts.
The working groups worked on their recommendations over the spring and summer, then made them available to the public for comments and suggestions. The task force presented its final report to Chancellor Jones in November 2007.
